Soy Vey

So, here I have been happily buying soy candles and eating my Edamame and thinking it was all better for me and for the environment --- and then I read that the dramatic increase in soybean demand is decimating the tropical Rain Forests in Brazil.

What is a green-girl to do?

Oh no! That's sad, I really like soy beans/edamame (and soy milk... and most other soy things.)

I would suggest buying more locally grown/made things. There isn't much edamame grown here (that I know of), but it's just a good environmentally friendly thing to do for lotsa different reasons.
P.S. Nice title ;)

Hi!

The soy plantations popping up in Brazil are mostly due to demand (for soy) from China.

Much of the soy in North America comes from the central states and some from Canada.

All you have to do is find out where the soy in the products you buy comes from. Most manufacturers will tell you if you ask.
